The Not-So-Secret Adventures of Owney at SPX 2014

The Small Press Expo, in Bethesda, MD, was a great time for us to discover more about the world of indie comics and to share The Secret Around the World Adventures of Owney the Postal Dog with fans of the graphic novel medium from all over North America.

One of the most exciting comics conventions around, SPX is THE place to be for indie comics and the people producing them; the event showcases a smorgasbord of innovation and experimentation in subject, format and artistic technique that is geared toward lovers of the combination of printed words and pictures.

It was great to reach out to convention-goers about our Owney project and it gave us a chance to introduce him to new an entirely new audience. Some had already heard of him, others thought we made him up (truth sometimes is stranger than fiction)! We had lots of great feedback and met lots of great folks who are now “Friends of Owney" (and have the dogtag to prove it)!

We also had a chance to connect with our New York-based literary agent, Jennifer Chen Tran of Penumbra Literary, who came down to SPX to meet us at our table and to immerse herself in the current world of graphic novel publication. We all left inspired by the amazing output of quality work being produced today.

A good time was had by all and we thank all the great people we met for helping make this year's SPX an event to remember!
